Combining scenography, technology, and performance, she designs dispositifs that react to bodies, emotions, and invisible signals.
Her work investigates perception as a dynamic process, where the boundary between human and environment continuously shifts.
ABOUT
LENA OSSEYRAN IS A LEBANESE THEATER DIRECTOR, ACTRESS, AND ARCHITECT LIVING BETWEEN BEIRUT AND PARIS. HER WORK WAS SHOWN IN LEBANON (BEIRUT), FRANCE (NORMANDY, VILLEURBANNE, PARIS, CAEN, ROUEN, NANCY, AVIGNON) AND GERMANY. Her practice examines how choreographic, linguistic, and spatial frameworks influence perception, using design and aesthetics to generate oneiric environments. She engages in transdisciplinary research that bridges art and science, with a focus on architecture, theatre, and emerging technologies such as animatronics. She conceived and designed Respiratory, a choreographed object that generates sound through movement, composing a symphony of the city. SHE DIRECTED SEVERAL PERFORMANCES SUCH AS PURGATORY (2016), HAMLETMACHINE BY HEINER MÜLLER (2018), TWO SUSPENDED WOMEN BY HASAN MAKHZOUM (2019), UNITÉS DE SOUFFLE : CARTOGRAPHIE D'UNE NUIT (NATIONAL STUDENT AWARD PRIZE 2023), EMOI, COMME UN AMOUR (Currently on tour).
BIO
SHE HOLDS A B.A. (2015) AND MRES (2018) IN THEATER STUDIES FROM THE LEBANESE UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF FINE ARTS AND ARCHITECTURE. ALSO, SHE HAS A MASTER'S DEGREE IN ARCHITECTURE FROM THE LEBANESE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS-ALBA (2016), AND A POSTMASTERS DEGREE IN RESEARCH IN ARCHITECTURE FROM PARIS LA VILLETTE, HESAM UNIVERSITY (2020) AT THE MAACC LABORATORY (Modélisations pour l'Assistance à l'Activité Cognitive de la Conception). DURING HER POSTMASTERS, SHE HAD A SCIENTIFIC STAY AT THE CRESSON LABORATORY CENTER FOR RESEARCH ON SOUND SPACE AND URBAN ENVIRONMENT IN GRENOBLE.
In 2025, she completed a practice-based PhD in Performing Arts Studies (2021–2025), supported by the RADIAN program (Research in Art, Design, Innovation, Architecture in Normandie). Her research focuses on staging and contemporary forms of representation, investigating embodied spaces through the prism of devastated bodies in contemporary theatre.
SHE IS A LECTURER AT THE LEBANESE UNIVERSITY OF FINE ARTS AND ARCHITECTURE BRANCH II IN BEIRUT, AND TEACHES MISE EN SCÈNE, DRAMATURGY AND PLAYWRITING COURSES FOR MASTER AND BACHELOR STUDENTS SINCE 2020. DURING HER PHD SHE ALSO TAUGHT DRAMATURGY FOR BACHELOR STUDENTS AND ECRITURE ET CREATION COURSES FOR MASTERS STUDENTS IN CAEN. She also co-developed courses with a psychologist and a theatre theorist, focusing on the intersection of theatre and psychology, for both theatre and psychology departments. Over the past six years, she has supported more than 350 student projects in writing and creation across various disciplines within the performing arts and theatre departments in Lebanon and France.
