Playground Zero

A MENTAL SPACE WHERE
IDEAS DEVELOP AND GROW

OVERVIEW

In this experiment, we install a camera, a room that feeds a stream of photos to a connected Raspberry Pi. We then use artificial intelligence to detect different faces in the room and perceive their emotions by recognizing a range of facial expressions like happiness, sadness, contempt, surprise, neutrality, anger, and fear.

Based on the perceived emotion, we trigger different light setups in the room.

Technical
details

We connect the camera to the Raspberry pi and enable it on the board. Running a Python program, we run a loop to capture pictures with the camera and upload them to Microsoft Azure Cognitive Face API for analysis. For each captured image, the API returns the number of faces detected along with each face attribute.

We use the results to turn on different LED lights (colors red, blue, white, yellow, green) connected to the Raspberry on the GPIO pins.
